A Rocha works in partnership and collaboration at a local, national and international level, with scientific bodies, higher education institutions, local government initiatives, faith-based organisations and churches. Here are just a few examples:
Soil impoverishment, weakened biodiversity, an increasingly unfavourable climate, extreme weather events: every day, people in the poorest countries see their living conditions worsened by the environmental crisis.
Given this situation, SEL and A Rocha, with the support of the CNEF, want to help limit the impact of this crisis on the poorest people. With the recommendation of the CNEF, we have decided to join forces to :
– Provide biblical and theological support for the care of creation
– Raise awareness of the scientific reality of the environmental crisis,
– Mobilise evangelical Protestants,
– Call on the authorities to honour their commitments.
See the campaign page ‘Loving the poorest also means protecting creation’(FR).
A Rocha has been a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) since 2002. The IUCN is the world’s largest and most diverse environmental network. It is the global authority on the state of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it.
Religious communities are key players in the effort to put people and the planet on a safer, more equitable and sustainable path. A Rocha International was part of the steering committee for the IUCN Reflection Session on Spirituality and Conservation at the World Conservation Congress 2016.
Our Executive Director, Simon Stuart, is the former Chair of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, a central figure in IUCN’s species conservation work for over three decades, and the winner of the prestigious Blue Planet Award for his work on the Red List of Threatened Species.
The IUCN World Conservation Congress is held every four years to set the global conservation agenda. A Rocha has a unique contribution to make through some of the key members of our team. Attending the Congress allows us to take part in the world’s largest environmental decision-making forum, showcase our work at the exhibition, share our latest conservation work at the Forum sessions, learn from technical and scientific experts, network, explore and build partnerships and engage with Christians from other conservation organisations.
A Rocha is a member of the ecology and climate justice commission of the Fédération Protestante de France.
A collaboration between the University Bible Groups and A Rocha, the Environment and Climate network is aimed at all Christians (students and professionals alike), with the aim of encouraging Christian reflection on environmental and climate issues.
