Between victories and challenges: reflections on 2024

Réflexions sur l'année 2024 et perpectives

Recognition or concern? What takes precedence at the end of 2024? Here at A Rocha, there’s recognition for the fine work accomplished by our teams in the field in the Vallée des Baux and at Les Courmettes. Every habitat protected, every species studied, every visitor transformed by their experience is a small victory. I’m also very grateful to our magnificent ambassadors and volunteers, for their testimony and their tireless work, particularly with the churches. Gratitude for the ecological awareness among many Christians, and for the people who express it in words: “It’s important, what you’re doing.

But there is also sadness and concern at the scale of the climate disaster, at an international situation that gives us cause for concern, and at our collective difficulty in reacting as climate scepticism rises again in our country and elsewhere.
On our own scale, the strengthening of our team since 2021 has enabled us to multiply A Rocha’s actions and increase our impact. Today, however, we are concerned about the possibility of having to reduce our team and our actions, due to a lack of financial resources.

We want to be faithful to the mission God has entrusted to us: to preserve the living and mobilize Christians to love, witness and serve in the midst of this ecological crisis. We know that God is not limited by economic or political circumstances; where He calls, He provides according to His good will. We thank the Lord for each of you who prays, acts and gives, so that A Rocha can fulfill its vocation.

Investing financially in A Rocha’s work is a way of expressing your conviction that this wonderful creation comes to us from the hand of our Father. The air we breathe, the water we drink, the multitude of creatures with whom we share this earth: everything is an expression of his love. By gratefully caring for them, we want to express our love in return. In a world focused on profit, exploitation and power, God calls us to go against the grain; to guard and cultivate, to continue to hope in his promises and to act by faith, even when all seems lost.

If you consider the work done by A Rocha to be important (and if you haven’t already done so), we invite you to think about setting up a monthly donation. You will soon receive more information about the possibility of supporting our actions with an end-of-year donation. In any case, we thank you for your interest in A Rocha; we are grateful for your support and your prayers.

And our worries? We entrust them to the One who holds all things in his hands.
