Presentation of the collective book ‘Facing Disasters’
In collaboration with A Rocha France, Éditions Mennonites has just published a new book: a collection of contributions made during Jacques Ellul Day, marking the 30th anniversary of his death.
Jacques Ellul (1912–1994) was said to be the man who predicted almost everything… Pandemics, GMOs, ecological crisis, global warming, nuclear waste, transhumanism… he saw these phenomena coming decades in advance, based on his thesis that technology drives the world – rather than economics and politics.
This collective work brings together contributions made during Jacques Ellul Day, which took place at the Haute école de théologie in Saint-Légier (Switzerland) in 2024, marking the 30th anniversary of his death.
It includes a presentation of Jacques Ellul’s thinking, current applications (for example, in relation to artificial intelligence), short testimonials, the results of workshop discussions, prayers, and more. Reading this book will help you understand today’s world, reflect on our technology-driven societies, become aware of deadly developments, and make a deliberate choice to remain hopeful despite everything. For Jacques Ellul was a deeply religious man, a Protestant, a man of hope… In some respects, he was a prophet whose words challenge us and remain with us. This is a book that will move hearts, Christians, communities, society as a whole…
