What is the European Solidarity Corps?
The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is a European programme offering young people the chance to get involved in voluntary projects with a social or environmental impact. At A Rocha, we welcome volunteers for exciting assignments focused on protecting biodiversity.
Volunteer projects at Mas Mireille and Les Courmettes
– Promoting and protecting biodiversity in the Vallée des Baux

Location: Mas Mireille – Arles, France
Date: Beginning of the year, duration 12 months
Position available: 1 position open to European citizens outside France

This mission offers an immersion in the unique wetlands of the Vallée des Baux. Volunteers acquire skills in scientific studies and take part in practical conservation actions.

  • Observation, monitoring and recording of species
  • Direct action to promote biodiversity: planting trees, installing nesting boxes, etc.
  • Learning French and communicating about the CES programme
  • Community tasks: welcoming visitors, maintaining the centre
– Protecting and restoring an endangered bird species: the European Roller

Location: Mas Mireille – Arles, France
Date: Beginning of the year, duration 12 months
Position available: 1 position open to European citizens outside France

This mission focuses on preserving the European roller, a spectacular species threatened by intensive farming and habitat loss.

  • Protecting habitats: installing nest boxes, raising awareness among local stakeholders
  • Monitoring breeding populations and contributing to scientific research
  • Learning French and communicating about the CES programme
    Participating in community life and maintaining the centre
– Reconciling biodiversity conservation and public access at the Domaine des Courmettes

Location: Domaine des Courmettes – Tourrettes-sur-Loup, France
Date: Beginning of the year, duration of 12 months
Positions available: 2 positions open each year

This activity offers a unique experience combining nature conservation and public awareness in a magnificent setting near Nice.

  • Raising public awareness using a variety of teaching aids
  • Species studies and habitat management
    French language learning and communication about the CES programme
  • Site maintenance and community tasks
Details and profile of participants

Volunteers are accommodated in the respective centres and share meals. Practical training is offered on arrival and throughout the project. We are looking for young people aged between 18 and 30 who are passionate about the environment and ready to get fully involved in community life.
