Team member (Les Courmettes)
Born in the Netherlands, Esther graduated with a MSc in Forest and Nature conservation at Wageningen University. After that she worked two years at A Rocha Portugal, first as volunteer and later as personal assistant to the Operational Director of Cruzinha. Meanwhile she also volunteered for A Rocha France, which led her to join the permanent team of Courmettes in July 2016.
Why A Rocha?
Brought up as a Christian in the reformed tradition, I learned that our Christian identity cannot be separated from our day-to-day life. At A Rocha I found this shared belief. It is such a joy to be able to work for an organisation where our faith in Christ is leading in what we do. Having the freedom to mention God’s name in decision making or taking time to pray during work is a real luxury.
What part of your commitment do you enjoy the most ?
Community life is both the most challenging and most rewarding bit of my job. I love meeting people from all over the world and sharing their stories. In conservation humans are often viewed as the source of all evil. I love that at A Rocha we see people as broken and part of the creation that can be restored by Christ. It gives hope and meaning to our work.
Is there one Bible verse which stands out for you?
