Our values and mission

Why are Christians involved in protecting the environment?

The Christian commitment to the climate and to safeguarding biodiversity has its origins in biblical texts. The reasons for preserving living things are not merely utilitarian; they are fundamentally ethical and moral, and they refer to values that transcend time and human interest. We are committed to :

For love

In his love, God created everything that exists. Learning to know and care for this creation is a way of honouring the Creator and loving our neighbour.

By obedience

God has given human beings the task of ‘cultivating and tending’ the garden. The earth does not belong to us; it belongs to God and we must take care of it.

By justice

The environmental crisis is largely caused by the richest people, and affects the poorest first. Taking action for the environment helps to reduce injustice and improve the future for everyone.

By hope

Despite a catastrophic ecological context, God still has a plan for his creation. It is in the light of God's victory in Christ that our action here and now takes on its full meaning.
